BBC Radio Drama format

Postby JamesD » Sun May 06, 2012 8:36 pm

I'm a complete beginner with Celtx so apologies in advance. So far as I can see Celtx does not support BBC Radio drama format scripts. I have read the answers to as many other posts on this topic as I can find but I'm still unable to produce scripts in the required way. The BBC website carries no very detailed specification, but so far as I can glean from examples and what information there is, a script should have the following format:

Scene description in bold underlined upper case and beginning on a new page
Directions parenthesised in underlined upper case
Character names in upper case followed by a colon
Dialog in 1.5 line spacing, lower case, beginning on the same line as the character name but indented from the left

It's unclear if cues should be numbered - some examples are.

If anyone is in the same fix I have a Microsoft Word template which does most of what's required, in Word 2003 or Word 2007 formats. Not ideal, but when you're stuck...

There is already a free template for MAC (http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/28130/ ... t-template)

BBC uses two different radio formats, Cue and Scene. Radio Drama tends to use Scene.

The detailed specifications from the BBC website and what each format is used for are at http://www.bbc.co.uk/writersroom/send-a ... our-script

In celtx radio typeset, click format options, you can choose format between "standard", BBC Cue and BBC Scene formats.

Thank you for the direct link to the BBC's script specification (although I still can't see any link on their site that takes me there). And I still can't see how to get that format out of Celtx. I am using version 2.9.7 (2012033018) and following these steps:

(1) Launch Celtx
(2) Select 'File...New Project' then click on 'Audio Play' in the list that appears.
(3) Scribble some stuff
(4) Click on the 'Typset/PDF' tab at the foot of the screen
(5) Click on 'Format Options' at the top of the screen
(6) A tabbed dialog appears. The first tab is for generalities like paper size. The second is titled 'BBC Options' but only asks for title of show, title of sketch and contact information. No mention of 'Scene' or 'Cue'.

The resultant output bears no resemblance to the required format.

It's in the general tab of typeset format options. Format: BBC Cue/Standard/BBC Scene

Many thanks for your patience. I expected to find it under 'BBC Options' and didn't check carefully enough elsewhere.
