Using the Storyboard tool

Am I correct (having only glanced at it) that
to place an image or drawing into the storyboard,
one needs to firstly have created them (camera/pencil n paper n scanner)
and have each as a separate file to insert into the placeholder?
'Cos I was thinking if I have to do that
I may as well use the traditional drawing A5 pad

('cause I'm too cheap to buy the tools for adding clips into scenes).

Thoughts welcome?
