Suggestions?

Postby Sharkey » Mon Jul 23, 2007 2:24 pm

I just thought that in the light of the last voting thread which was also used for suggestions, maybe one could use a thread which everybody would simply suggest different ideas for the next competition guidelines.

If all posted in here, the competition maker (in this case oddjob) could just pick an idea from the list randomly, therefore generating the next script competition's subject. It could be seen as a member generated idea database for competition usages, if you know what I mean...

Anyway, just to start off I'll resurrect Jule's original suggestion in the last voting thread.

Write a 10 page script consisting entirely of dialogue.
All art is quite useless.

I concur. With both the thread idea, and the contest idea.

I think the contest idea is good. It would have been the criteria for #6, but Jules requested it be moved back. So, it might be #7, or it might not.

Anyone else have any suggestions on what they'd like to see. How about a 10 page script of only action? Or would that be too easy?

Not trying to stab at your direction ntay but you raised an important issue by your post. I think this should be kept simply for suggesting ideas, not for showing your support or lack of such for them. It'll make it easier for oddjob to go through to choose a subject idea at random.

i love the pilot script idea, but i really don't think it should be a full 60 page script, even just because we have to read all of them. not that i don't like reading them but that just seems like a lot.

how about a pilot for a 5-10 minute webseries?

like a channel101 pilot? but just the script (www.channel101.com for those who don't know what i'm referring to)?

How about a 10-20 script about how you would handle an adaption for your favorite video game if it were to come onto the silver screen? Some variant of that maybe?

These are some really good ideas, thanks.

Just a point about this thread (I hope Sharkey doesn't mind if I just put a rule down here).

Could every post have a suggestion in it? It would just make it easier for when I need to find something. By all means, discuss previous ones, but I'd appreciate it if every post has at least one suggestion. So your posts could go something like this:

That's a really good idea. But, how many pages would that be?

Here's my suggestion:

When I use a suggestion I'll give credit to the person who thought of it, and I'll cross it off in the post which is on this thread.

Thanks

I like the idea of an all out action sequence.

I understand that in a previous contest a similar idea only received one entrant. Now that their is a larger pool of participants something like this could be revisited.

My idea would be:

An Action sequence in the Hollywood Blockbuster style.
Upto 10 pages.
The more over the top the better.

Admit it, it would be fun.

Eh, I'm not so fond of over-the-top action, but who knows?

My suggestion is:

Write any movie, up to 15 pages, with a twist ending

Simple.
