Celtx Script Competition #35

Postby ntay » Thu Oct 29, 2009 5:48 pm

Howdy folks, it's that time of the month again!

This week's suggestion was made by doctorbob

doctorbob wrote:Write a 10 - 20 page horror story"

A bit Haloween-y for all you folks out there. :)

- post a link to your script on this thread
- only one entry per participant
- entries must have the tag cfsc35 when published to Project Central
- Anybody can enter
- You don't need to have entered to vote

Voting will begin in two and a half weeks, (Thursday, November 12th). You will then vote for who you think has the best script, and the winner will receive a point on the leaderboard!

Good luck everyone!

Really dig this criteria. Working on something. Hopefully it'll be done on time for closing.

Great

Sweet... I'm on it now.
Why the 20 page limit? Why not 30? Closer to 30 minutes, right? If on HBO.

Thanks
:)

The reason we try to keep page counts below 20 is because in the short amount of time allowed to write a script for the competitions, it would be more difficult for a polished longer piece of work to be completed.

We also keep the page limits low as a token of regard for the voters, who would be reading all entries and voting on them - fewer people would vote if they were confronted with 5 entries of 30 pages long and thus we would have no winner.

There is also the fact that short scripts like these which are written for competitions make up a part of the writers portfolio of work and may be something they want to consider shooting in their spare time - if you're shooting a film as a hobby or as a break from your day job the shorter it is, the better it will fit in with your timetable.

The primary reason for me keeping scripts in the competitions short is my belief that good written shorts are essential practise to improve your writing. It helps you write in the most condensed and simple way possible and teaches you the merits of simplicity and vertical writing to get your story told in the best way possible in the shortest amount of time. It basically improves your overall pacing which you can then bring as an experience into your longer scriptwriting projects and improve on these more complicated and much harder to keep paced exertions.
All art is quite useless.

Here is my entry...a little light. I've never written a short before.

I threw it together quickly, haven't been able to find time to refine it, so here it is draft 1.5 :)

My entry. Thanks!

Impurity

Move over Swine and Bird flu... you have a new player in town.

Ludlowville Kentucky, the town restaurant is on the verge of closing due to the rapid increase of new viruses infecting the livestock. The owner, Joseph Dayton and his family ready for any virus... at least they think so.

Electric Angels

14 pages - slasher / horror

An isolated serial killer makes the trek in to town to find a specific boy. The only thing standing between them is his babysitter. Would you trust your childhood babysitter to be willing to die to protect you?

This is a vomit draft. I literally haven't even given it a cursory glance to ensure basic spelling and grammar. About as raw as my writing gets.
