A Celtx Community Film

Postby ntay » Sat Feb 28, 2009 7:46 pm

Howdy folks, had an idea.

How many of you would be willing to put together a big film?

It could be either an anthology of shorts with a main theme, or a continuous film with an interweaving plot.

It doesn't have to be high quality image wise; we're not all filmmakers; but we are all storytellers, and I think we can all put together something.

I know we had an idea like this a while ago (The Big Collaboration) but I think this one we could accomplish!

What do you guys think? Questions? Discuss. :)

Why, what a great idea.
Sometimes I feel so sick with the state of the world I almost can't finish my second apple pie.

Thank you vedus! It was actually your video that inspired me.

Do you think it's a dopey idea?

It would be especially cool, if those of us living in the same area(state/province/city) could coordinate resources and work together.

I was also thinking to utilize the international nature of the Celtx community.

I mean, it doesn't need to be really high quality (obviously it needs a story of some sort) but Celtx really does have an international reach that could be utilized in some way.

We could get together in various areas, also. It's all up to what folks want to do. :)

In further reference to vedus; people could even use their mobile phones if they wanted to.

The vimeo forums have a project section where people can submit ideas for projects and then people go to work. The one that kicked off Nick's idea here is the 5x5. Five 5 second vignettes. This was my particular entry to it.

What would be more interesting what Nick is suggesting where you use what ever you have to tell a narratvie. I would argue that my 5x5 does have a narrative, albeit a shallow one about me generally being, but that's beside the point.

Well, it's whatever you think it should be. I'm thinking there ought to be a main theme or something like that; everyone can do a short that deals with that theme and we could edit them all together or something like that.

I mean, what do you guys think? A community film has to have some input from the community :)

Well why don't we create basic characters and kind've do a continue the story thing. For example one person or group makes a movie(as long or as short as they wish). Then the next person or group builds on the previous piece.

We would have to find a way to ensure though that each group/individual completes their project within a certain time frame so as to guarantee that the project does not die.

You silly twisted boy you. It's such a fantastic idea, that I wish that I had thought of it first.

The same characters or different characters? The trick with all of us being a world apart is the lack of continuity in our actors.

I was thinking perhaps shorts that tie into each other somehow; with maybe a persistent, invisible character maybe?

I dunno, I'm just trying to facilitate discussion. I also figure different shorts so we don't have to worry if someone doesn't finish theirs on time.

I mean, it was just an idea. There doesn't have to be a persistently off-camera character.

Perhaps just a unifying theme and everyone could make a short around that theme.

Okay, folks, let's do it!

If you'd like to participate, be sure to have your film finished by the first of May.

As per vedus' request, how about each film has to feature an index card. Any way you want.

Each short has to be at MOST two minutes. Any more, people may not be as interested in watching your short ;)

Keep content in the PG-13 realm. We don't want too much violence or sexuality.

Hope to see some films!
