Why Celtx?

Postby nsfilms » Thu Aug 04, 2005 7:02 pm

Just really curious as to why it's named Celtx? I know it's stupid but curiousity got the better of me. It is pronounced Cell-Ticks?

Hi NS,

You are the first person on the forum to ask us that question.

Celtx is an acronym. It stands for

C-rew
E-quipment
L-ocations
T-alent
X-ML

Things have changed with our application in the past 4 years of development , but we stuck with the name.

We pronounce it "Kel-tix", with a hard C, but people also seem to like to pronounce it with a soft "Cell-ticks".

There are many international Celtx users and I'm sure that everyone pronounces it a little differently. We don't mind how you pronounce it, as long as you find it useful!

Thanks for asking, :D

LOL

Thanks, I don't know what made me so curious...I guess now it can be one of those useless trivia questions.

Or "Trivial things I know for no known reason".

I'm rather fond of

Sellt Ex

It ties it all in.

I also like to spell it CeltX, perhaps that explains why I say it that way. Web design and marketing does that to you, you don't expect what could be a word with an X tacked onto it to be pronounced as one thing....

Cell Tech

I also prefer the 'Sell Tex' pronunciation since to my ear it sounds less like a Celtic Harp Ensemble compliation released by Hearts of Space records ;)
also, it harkens back to the old way of doing animation:
http://www.animationconnection.com/cartoon.html
where the clear sheets (called 'Cells' -or- 'Cels') of acetate or nitrate paper were used in constructing animations
now I realize that Celtx has little to do with animation per se but people woking in the film industry would most likely pronounce Celtx accordingly ('Sell-Tex')...so, in short Cell Technology -or- Celtx could be abstracted to mean software tech used in the construction of scenes by overlaying imagery, words, effects, et al.
just my perspective having been around filmmaking since the 70's...
Cheers!
